Name
Science Seminar Series
Description
2:00pm - 3:00pm
Join us each month as plant science and conservation efforts are presented by San Diego Botanic Garden’s staff, research associates, colleagues, and guest speakers.
This month we will feature Jackson Kubal, Genomics Research Specialist at San Diego Botanic Garden, as he poses the question: Temperature-Resilient Crops? Yes We Cran.
The climate is changing and some of your favorite crops might not harbor the genetic diversity necessary to adapt. Thankfully, they have wild relatives! Join Jackson as he presents "Species-Specific Gene Expression During Temperature Stress in Cranberry Interspecific Hybrids," the story of SDBG's attempt to uncover the molecular differences underlying temperature-response in cranberry (Vaccinium macrocarpon), its circumboreal wild-relative (Vaccinium oxycoccos), and a hybrid made from a cross between the two.
Class format: In person, indoors. SDBG follows local safety and health guidelines, and supports staff and visitors who choose to wear masks as they prefer.
Cost: Free with Garden admission.
Please register by May 23. Walk-ins welcome, space permitting.
