Description

2:00 p.m.  - 3:00 p.m.

Join us each month as plant science and conservation efforts are presented by San Diego Botanic Garden’s staff, research associates, colleagues, and guest speakers.

This month we will feature Dr. Paul O’Maille presenting The Wave of Successful Evolving - The Simplest Solutions are Often the Most Powerful and Elegant.

Dr. O’Maille is a biochemist by training and has investigated the evolution of plants, insects and microorganisms for over two decades both in the U.K. and back home in the U.S.  He currently leads a Biocomplexity Program solving moon-shot problems for governmental agencies in the area of biodefense.  About a year ago, he came upon a profound yet simple insight that has helped him see the world in an entirely different way - this insight has enhanced his decision making significantly and he is passionate about sharing his discoveries to help others navigate their own landscapes of possibilities.

"What can plants tell us about the future of human evolution? Is going with or against the Wave better?  To what extent might your emotional state at any moment in time be linked to quantum mechanics - the field that Robert J. Oppenheimer is credited for bringing back from Europe to the US?  These seemingly disparate realms will be unified and clarified in my presentation.  My goal is to help my audience see the world with fresh eyes."

Class format: In person, indoors. SDBG follows local safety and health guidelines, and supports staff and visitors who choose to wear masks as they prefer.

Cost: Free with Garden admission.

Registration will remain open until the event time. Walk-ins welcome, space permitting.
